Aamir Khan, who is espousing the cause of the weavers, wore a handmade fabric suit for the premiere of 3 Idiots last night.
Styled by designer buddy Sabyasachi Mukherjee, this was the actor's way of making a fashion statement to preserve the dying art of the weavers.

Doing his part
A few years ago, a woman visited him from Chanderi and happened to mention the plight of the weavers and how it was a dying art. Khan promised to help her and during his recent nation-wide promotional tour, he landed up in Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh. As a first move, he decided to step out in a creation woven by them.

Says a source, "Aamir had picked up two saris from Sabyasachi as a birthday gift for his wife Kiran Rao last month. When it came to the big night of his movie, he decided it was the best opportunity to put forward their cause. He asked Sabyasachi to design something for the premiere using handwoven cloth."

Off-screen Aamir is not into designer wear and prefers smart casuals. Usually Arjun Bhasin styles him.
Says Aamir, "In support of the cause of weavers across India and to encourage the use of hand made fabric I decided to wear a modern suit made with handmade cloth."
