Amu's a great friend
He is still in touch with his brother's estranged girlfriend, who is now married, "She is a great friend and will always be. I am happy for her. I had congratulated her and Shakeel (Ladak), and will do so personally when I am in Mumbai next.
He adds, "Amu has helped me a lot and I can't ignore that. I used to visit her on her film's sets and that helped me groom as an actor. I have had the guidance of Malaika and Arbaazbhai who are great people. I was also blessed to have Amu's mother Joyce and father Anil as support. Thanks to Aunty Joyce she never made me feel the absence of my mother here in Mumbai."
Like his brother, Aquib is also into cricket. "I represented England in the under-15, 17 and18 teams as well as Nottinghamshire county. "Usman and I played together at Nottinghamshire until I aspired to be part of Bollywood. Usman is currently the captain of the Surrey county."
The Let's Dance offer came his way after he featured in the Tips music video Maheru. "Kumar Taurani is the reason why I landed a role in Let's Dance," he says.
About his character in Let's Dance, slated for a June release, he says, "My role is that of a smart and sophisticated individual who knows he can get what he wants."
Aquib began modelling three years ago while on a visit to Mumbai. He has been part of Lakme Fashion Week 2006 and has walked the ramp for designers Wendell Rodricks, Vikram Phadnis and Manish Malhotra.
"I've put my heart and soul in Let's Dance. Now the aim is to aim higher in Bollywood."
