Although he's always seen in comic roles, Rajpal Yadav is quite a serious guy in real life. Rajpal who was sporting a new shaven look talked to CS about entertainment in Bollywood:
On a serious note
I never aimed to be funny in life. I want people to take me as a normal, serious man. I have never made cinema a joke. I am a responsible, complete, family man.
What's so funny?
Bollywood is all about entertainmentu00a0-- not comedy or tragedy. Any movie that can make the audience sit for two and half hours at a stretch without any complaints is a great movie. I don't think Bollywood's released a single flick that's been purely comedy or tragedy in the last two years. I've only come across films that were complete entertainment packages.
Time for entertainmentu00a0
The media has made the world a smaller place to live in. Any tragedy that happens is captured by the media within seconds unlike the earlier days. So the scope of showcasing tragedy in movies is very low and with the advent of so many news channels, it almost seems impossible. So now the film industry has shifted its focus towards entertainment rather than reality.
My inspiration
The whole world inspires me. I love observing people when I am travelling and translate those observations into my roles. Charlie Chaplin would be a close second. He was the ultimate entertainer. I have tried to learn many things from his acting.
The character I play in my upcoming film is that of a watchman. The story is about today's unemployed youth who come to Mumbai in search of jobs. I am a director's actor, so I let my director call the shots.
