During his appearance on Indian Idol 13 last year, speaking about Dilip Kumar, Dharmendra had said, "Maine unse, Raaj saab, Devanad saab⦠Tab school nahi hota tha, toh inse hi sikha hai (There was no school that time, so whatever I have learnt is from Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand)."
Earlier, during his appearance on Superstar Singer, Dharmendra had shared, "When I went to the tenth grade, I saw Dilip Kumar ji's film Shaheed and I immediately fell in love with him and his acting skills. I felt like he was my brother. I was elated by the audience's love for him and yearned for it myself. Hence, I became an actor to win the audience's love and I am getting the love to which I am truly grateful."
Meanwhile, Dharmendra was last seen in the film 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' alongside Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Ranveer Singh, and Alia Bhatt. Directed by Karan Johar, the film also marks his 25th year in Bollywood.
Dharmendra's kiss with Shabana in the film was among the much-discussed parts. Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi play long-lost lovers who are reunited by their grandchildren. Their romantic track runs parallel to that of Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt.
A few days back during the success meet of 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani', Dharmendra spoke about the kiss. When Ranveer Singh egged him to talk about 'woh wala scene; the senior actor cheekily said, "Unfortunately, I couldn't attend the premiere, but I've received a lot of messages from people. Maine bola, âYaar, yeh toh mere daaye haath ka kaam hai (I can do this in my sleep)." As the rest of the cast of the film laughed, Dharmendra added, "Baaye haath se karwana hai, woh bhi karwa lo (I can do it effortlessly)."
As for Shabana in an interview with Zoom said that shooting the scene was ânever an issue', and noted that crowds have been âlaughing and cheering' in theatres during the scene. "It is true that I haven't kissed much on screen before. But who wouldn't want to kiss a man as handsome as Dharmendra?" she said.
