Bollywood superstar Sunny Deol recently revealed the reason behind his initial hesitation to venture into a sequel for his iconic film 'Gadar'. The momentous occasion of the trailer launch brought together Sunny Deol, along with Utkarsh Sharma, Ameesha Patel, and filmmaker Anil Sharma on Vijay Diwas.
'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha', with a runtime of two hours and fifty minutes, holds the distinction of being the second most-watched Hindi film in India since the 1990s. The movie became a colossal success and emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi film since the 1994 blockbuster 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!'.
Speaking about his apprehension, Sunny Deol shared at the trailer launch, "The first 'Gadar' when we made, people turned it into a Gadar (humongous). It was always scary to touch a film that was such a complete package. That's why I was scared, but when I heard the story, the old 'Gadar' was 'Gadar', and I hope the same result for this one too."
Released in 2001, 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' is a romantic period action drama set during the Partition of India in 1947. Loosely based on the life of Boota Singh, the film stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Amrish Puri, and Lillete Dubey. Interestingly, Ameesha Patel bagged the role of Sakeena after competing against 500 other girls in auditions.
The much-anticipated 'Gadar 2' serves as a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster. This time, the film is set in 1971, with Tara Singh's character returning to Lahore, Pakistan, amidst an intense anti-India "Crush India" campaign, all in an effort to bring back his son Charanjeet.
As the release date approaches, the excitement for 'Gadar 2' continues to build up. Fans are eager to witness the on-screen magic recreated by the powerful trio of Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma. The film's captivating storyline, set against the backdrop of historical events, promises to be a memorable cinematic experience.
Scheduled to hit the theaters on August 11, 'Gadar 2' is anticipated to evoke the same emotions and leave a lasting impact on the audience, just like its predecessor did. With Sunny Deol's unparalleled charisma and the brilliant performances of the ensemble cast, the film is poised to be a significant success once again.
