Lata Mangeshkar was the first Indian singer to perform at the Royal Albert Hall
Lata Mangeshkar Death Anniversary 2024: In a career spanning several decades, legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar has regaled millions with her songs. There are also remarkable incidents in her life that make for inspiring anecdotes. One such incident was shared by singers Sonu Nigam and Javed Ali on a show, about the time when Lata Mangeshkar sang at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
"When Lataji got an opportunity to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, she was a bit confused. It was one of the most prestigious places to perform and it was a matter of pride for any singer to perform at that iconic place. Lataji was the first Indian singer to perform at the Royal Albert Hall. It was an honour not only for her but also for all Indians as well," said Sonu Nigam.
Javed Ali also shared an incident which shows why Lata will remain a legend.
"There was a huge concert at Royal Albert Hall in London where Lataji was supposed to perform and Dilip saab was supposed to introduce her. As soon as Dilip saab introduced her, Lataji came on stage without slippers. When Dilip Kumar saw this, he told Lataji that this is England, it's cold you may get sick, but Lataji refused and said, I never sing a song wearing slippers, as for me it's a prayer," said Javed Ali.

Work was undoubtedly worship for legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. She began her career in 1942 at the age of 13 and gave over seven decades to the music world. Although India's nightingale is no more with us, her huge body of work will be remembered forever.
At the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award ceremony, sister Asha Bhosle paid heartfelt tributes to the Queen of Melody, who breathed her last on February 6, 2022 following multiple organ failure.
In her emotional speech, Asha Bhosle had recalled her fond memories associated with Lata Mangeshkar. She also appreciated Lata Mangeshkar's immense love for her work, revealing how she had once worked despite suffering from a 104-degree fever.
"Woh bhaut jaldi kaam pe lag gayi..ek baar ki baat hai Lata didi ko 104 bukhar hua wa tha. Maa ne unse kaha ki aaj shooting pe mat jaa tabiyat theek nahin.... par didi ne kaha nhi maa mujhe jana padega aur woh itne tapte bukhar me bhi gayi aur kaam kiya...Uska kaam tha us time pari banke upar se latakte hue gaana gaana tha... kitna kasht karna padta hai ek artist ko aur usne woh kia (She started working very young. I remember once she had a 104 fever, maa told her to don't go for shooting as her health was not okay, but didi refused and went for the shoot. She was to sing as an angel while being suspended in air. How much trouble one has to do as an artist and she did that," Asha Bhosle shared.
