Actor Randeep Hooda flagged off the Savarkar Mukti Century Yatra, commemorating the significant contributions of armed revolutionaries to India's freedom movement as he was gearing up for the release of his movie in 2024. The sacrifices of numerous revolutionaries in securing India's independence were acknowledged, with Veer Savarkar hailed as the leader of these armed revolutionaries.
After his release from Andaman in 1921, Savarkar was detained in Ratnagiri and later transferred to Yerwada prison. Under mounting public pressure, Veer Savarkar was freed from imprisonment on January 6, 1924. He was brought from Yerwada jail to Bombay, then taken to Ratnagiri on January 8, 1924, marking the commencement of his 13-year 'Samajkranti Parv.'
The year 2024 marked the 100th anniversary of Veer Savarkar's liberation after enduring 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and total 27 years of captivity. Consequently, this year was celebrated as the 'Swatantryaveer Savarkar Liberation Century Year.' On Saturday, the Swatantraveer Savarkar National Memorial hosted an event where actor Randeep Hooda who will be portraying the role of Swatantrya Veer Savarkar in his biopic was an integral part of the ceremony. Randeep has not only acted, but has written, directed and produced the film.
The 'Swatantryaveer Savarkar Mukti Shatabdi Yatra' commenced on January 6, 2024, at 9.00 am from Yerwada Jail to Karve Marg, Swatantryaveer Savarkar Memorial, concluding at Ferguson College. The Yatra commenced from Yerwada Jail, marking a hundred years since his release from a 14-year captivity of his total 27 years in prison. Police presented the bust of Veer Savarkar, handing it over to Randeep Hooda and Ranjeet Savarkar to mark the occasion. Randeep flagged the rally and personally led it from Yerwada Jail to the Swatantrya Veer Savarkar Memorial and then concluded at Fergusson College, where Savarkar himself had once been a student.

Later, Randeep Hooda paid homage at Savarkar's hostel room, the very place where Savarkar initiated his Navbharat movement. He offered his tributes there as a mark of respect to Savarkar's historic journey. Subsequently, a ceremony was organized where Randeep met with the Savarkar family and supporters from all corners of Maharashtra, converging in Pune to honor and commemorate the legacy of Veer Savarkar.
Speaking about it Randeep shared, "Today is a very historic day, as today it has been 100 years since Savarkar Ji was released from jail and he was kept under house arrest in Ratnagiri and was in district arrest. The day he left from this jail, he first went to Bombay and then went to Ratnagiri, where he remained in the Restricted Movement for the next thirteen years".
He further added, "He is such a great freedom fighter for our country, about whom people know very little. I hope that through my movie, people will know more about him. If you read about him in detail, you will come to know that his contribution to the country was very big. Whatever wrong concepts people have about him, watch the movie once and read about him, then decide. "
Hindu organizations and activists from various places like Mumbai, Pune, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Nigdi participated in the yatra, joining with two-wheelers and four-wheelers. The yatra was welcomed at Swatantraveer Savarkar Memorial at Balgandharva Chowk, Karve Marg, and concluded near Fergusson College. Notable figures including Swatantraveer Savarkar National Memorial, Mumbai President Praveen Dixit (former Director General of Police), Working President Ranjit Savarkar, Treasurer Manjiri Marathe, BJP leader Sunil Deodhar, former MLA Medha Kulkarni, Savarkar lecturer and actor Sharad Ponkshe, actor Randeep Hooda, along with several political and social dignitaries, graced the event.
A special program will be organized at the Swatantryaveer Savarkar National Memorial in Mumbai today at 7.00 pm in Dadar, which will be attended by actor Randeep Hooda and other dignitaries.
