The Colaba police arrested an individual who made a hoax call to the fire brigade, claiming that he intended to place a bomb at the Taj Hotel in South Mumbai.
The incident transpired on October 14 when the Mumbai Fire Brigade control room received a phone call wherein the anonymous caller threatened to plant a bomb at the Taj Hotel near Gateway of India. Promptly, police authorities were dispatched to the location, but their search revealed nothing suspicious.
Subsequently, the police initiated a trace on the call, leading them to the residence of the caller in Kalachowki. The individual responsible for the false threat was identified as Dharampal Singh, aged 36. It is suspected that Singh was inebriated when he contacted the fire brigade control room.
According to the police, Singh is a labourer currently facing unemployment. He reportedly made the call out of frustration and while under the influence of alcohol.
The police have charged him under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code for criminal intimidation. Dharampal Singh was presented before the Esplanade Court and granted one day of police custody.
