10-year-old Saumya, daughter of a street vendor was thrown into a cauldron of hot oil in Uttar Pradesh by two men who had an argument with her father over money, police said Monday. One accused has been arrested.
Saumya was left with severe burns when the two men Saturday threw her into the hot oil at Shivrajpur, on the outskirts of Kanpur, police said.
Shivrajpur police station chief Anjani Verma said one of the assailants, Prem Shankar Tiwari, has been held.
The two local musclemen first ate at her father Avnish Pandey's wayside stall. When Pandey asked them to pay for the snacks, they allegedly threw the girl into the cauldron.
