Acting on a tip off, a team of the Thane excise department raided an Andheri-based godown and seized 1,800 illegally supplied liquor bottles worth Rs 2 crore. Two people, identified as Punjalal Patel and Bipin Shah have been arrested in the case. According to sources, the excise officials first caught Patel from Khar and recovered 20 bottles of liquor from him. During interrogation he revealed that he purchased the liquor from Shah, after which the excise officials asked him to call up Shah and order some more bottles. When Shah met him at SV Road to deliver the bottles, cops nabbed him. On being questioned, he revealed that he kept all his stock at a godown in Andheri.
Later, the excise officials along with the police raided the godown and seized the bottles, which Shah used to supply to some of his regular customers. Speaking to mid-day, Santaji Lad, inspector, Excise Department, said, "Shah had taken the godown on rent to store incense sticks. But eventually he started storing the liquor bottles, which he got from a supplier in Delhi. We are trying to find out the route via which he used to get the bottles to the city."
