Twenty seven-year-old Zico Misquitta, arrested for allegedly murdering his girlfriend Carol Pinky Misquitta, had preplanned the crime and was carrying a knife with him when he went to meet her, said an officer privy to the investigation. Zico and his accomplice Kumar Babu Devendran brutally stabbed Carol multiple times all over her body in the early hours of January 25.
Zico was supposed to get married to a girl and Carol, who had just broken up with him, was opposing this, said an officer, while explaining the motive for the crime. The investigating team told mid-day that Carol's head was only attached to her body by a thin layer of muscle. "It seems her wind pipe was also chopped by the sharp-edged weapon," said an officer.

A police source told mid-day that Devendran joined the couple at Virar phata and the trio crossed the Khanivade toll plaza at 1.14 am on January 25. "Devendran was alone on his motorcycle, whereas Zico was riding Carol's scooter. She was his pillion rider. Their last location was traced to the toll plaza," said an officer privy to the investigation.
During the interrogation, the killers told Palghar police that they had planned to reach Kelwa beach, but they changed their mind and headed to Waghoba ghat. "After reaching Waghoba ghat, they all sat on a large stone. Carol wanted to get married to Zico, but he had planned to eliminate her. After a heated argument between the couple, Zico first strangulated her and later, pushed her down the ghat, but she got stuck between the stones," said the police.
Zico told his interrogators that Carol was gasping for air when he tried to smash her face with a stone. "At the time of killing his girlfriend, Zico kept repeating âye mar kyun nahin rahi hai'. He claimed that Devendran then pulled out his knife and stabbed her multiple times all over the body," said the police. "She was stabbed in her chest with the knife; while attempting to pull it out, the handle broke. The killers threw the knife handle in the same area," said the police.
After killing and disposing of her body, both the killers went on separate bikes. "On reaching Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway, Zico parked Carol's scooty, and rode pillion on Devendran's bike to Vile Parle." The killers had also taken both her cellphones and laptop with them to Vile Parle. "Zico had given these electronic items to a man in Mumbai to eradicate data. But after the news broke in the media, the man reached out to the Palghar police and handed over the gadgets," said the police.
