The Crime Branch yesterday arrested a 24-year-old who broke into assistant police inspector's house last Saturday morning while the cop was at work and fled with valuables worth Rs 1.22 lakh.u00a0
The burglary took place a day after the accused, Mukesh Sugirat Parit, was released from jail after serving a 10-month sentence in an earlier robbery case in Dharavi.
The assistant inspector, Jagannath Khondulkar, is a resident of JJ Marg in Bhendi Bazaar, and was recently transferred from JJ Marg to LT Marg police station. Speaking to MiD DAY, Khondulkar said, "At the time of the incident I was on duty and nobody was at home. The accused broke into my house and stole the valuables on Saturday morning, after which a case was registered with the police station."
Parit has a history of cases registered against him at Sion, Matunga and Dharavi police stations. The Sion police had also externed him for two years, but the accused had snuck back into the city.
An officer from JJ Marg police station said, "The officer was earlier attached with our jurisdiction and we were in search of the accused. This is the first case registered again Parit in our police station."
Valuables worth Rs 1.22 lakh, including gold chains and mobile phone, were reported stolen. And officials have been successful in recovering all the goods from the accused. Parit was booked under section 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code.u00a0
