Wary of losing crucial votes in the wake of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections in February 2012, the Shiv Sena has taken a populist decision to not hike the fares of journeys on BEST buses. In response to a question asked by a media person present at a party event at Sena Bhawan in Dadar, Executive President Uddhav Thackeray said, "With the constant hike in petrol prices, we need to increase the price of bus tickets. But we will still stick to the current fare, because we won't let the price rise affect the common man."
The Sena has also demanded that children of policemen be given preference while applying for jobs in the police department.
