Congress President Sonia Gandhi chose both chief ministers late on Saturday night; in Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda was reinstated as CM
Ashoku00a0Chavan has won the race for Maharashtra CM. The final decision was taken by Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi late on Saturday night. Chavan had been handed over the post in December 2008 after former CM Vilasrao Deshmukh was asked to step down after criticism over the 26/11 terror attacks.

Other contenders for the post of CM included Deshmukh, Narayan Rane and senior Congress leader Patangrao Kadam. Congress Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) had gathered at the Vidhan Bhawan on Saturday evening to choose the Chief Minister but the meeting came to an end after it was announced that the final decision would be taken by the high command in Delhi.
