A traffic police constable thrashed Shiv Sena corporator Sunil More for allegedly jumping a signal last evening. The incident happened at around 7.30 pm, when More, a corporator from F/south ward, was heading home in his Scorpio after attending a general body meeting at the BMC headquarters.
Rao Rane, the traffic constable, caught More's driver jumping the signal at Albert junction in Cottongreen. This led to an altercation that landed More in the police station. While More insisted that the constable hit him without provocation, Rane claimed it was the corporator who hit him.
Meraz Shaikh, More's advocate, said, "More's vehicle didn't break any traffic rule. The driver wanted to take a right turn and Rane stopped them, saying it wasn't allowed and they would have to go ahead and take a U-turn. That's when the corporator intervened. However, the constable didn't listen to him even when he said he was a corporator. More was manhandled and taken to Kalachowkie police station."
At the police station, the constable alleged that he was hit by the corporator and a case was filed against More for obstructing a public servant from performing his duties. No case was filed against the driver.

"To cover up the case, the constable filed a false complaint, saying he was hit while it was the other way round. The constable slapped More and he was bleeding near his ear. We tried explaining the facts, the police agreed and took our NC against the constable," added Shaikh.
More was later released on bail of Rs 5,000. The police said they were investigating the matter.
