Forensic report says Yousuf Syed wasn't poisoned
In a major respite for Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, a forensic report on Saturday ruled out the fact that Syed Mohammad Yousuf could have been poisoned. The death of Yousuf, a National Conference (NC) worker, had caused major pandemonium in the state.
Yousuf, who used to work for the party in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, died on September 30 allegedly in police custody after two fellow party workers had accused him of taking Rs 1.18 crore from them for getting them berths in the Legislative Council. A panel of doctors in a preliminary report had cited that he died due to cardio-respiratory failure, but according to the Opposition party, he was killed to hush up the matter.
Abdullah has come under intense pressure in the last few days when it was learnt that Yousuf, along with the two NC party members who had complained against him, were asked to come to the residence of Abdullah, who, in turn, handed the three men to the police for further investigation.
Hours later, Yousuf reportedly died.
