Action against Santosh Baburao Dalvi came following detailed investigations by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone XI, Mahesh Patil. "During the probe we found some merit in the letter written by the complainant, after which we suspended Dalvi," said an officer from MHB police station.
The inquiry was conducted after a 25-year old woman complained to the police department that Santosh had raped her. The victim, a resident of Borivli (West), was employed as a teacher till a few months ago. Her father works in a private firm in Goregaon, while her mother is also a tutor at a school. Last month, the victim's employers asked her to resign, as she had to undergo surgery and was unable to attend school regularly. She came under the influence of some friends and took to alcoholism and drugs, after which her parents admitted her to a rehabilitation centre.
Around 5 pm on September 30, Santosh allegedly came to the woman's house with five or six youngsters. The SI assured her parents that there was no need to worry and he was taking her to the police station for investigations. He informed them that some of the victim's friends were part of a motorcycle-theft racket, and several mobiles and two-wheelers had been recovered from them. He later took the woman to a lodge at Mira Road and raped her while inebriated.
