The authorities have declared holiday for schools on Friday and Saturday in Palghar district in view of a 'red alert' issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD forecast stated that 'heavy to very heavy' rainfall was likely in several places in Palghar and adjoining Thane over the next 48 hours.
The Palghar collector Govid Bodke issued an order to shut schools for next two days.
The authorities in Thane too have declared holiday for schools on Friday amid heavy rainfall alert in the district.

Meanwhile, the Thane collector Ashok Shingare, asked people to stay indoors in view of the heavy rains.
He also directed the civic and district machinery to be fully prepared to provide relief to citizens.
