The bungalow has remained closed since March 2022 due to various maintenance issues
A significant problem in the bungalow has been the presence of termites in its wooden structures
As part of the restoration, the BMC is conducting extensive anti-termite treatment to address the infestation
The project also includes repairing leakages that have plagued the bungalow's structure
Refinishing work is being undertaken to restore the bungalow to its original condition
The entire repair project has been allocated a budget of Rs 65 lakh
The Byculla house was meant to be a temporary arrangement. The original Mayor's Bungalow, a 1928-built structure located at Shivaji Park in Dadar, was officially handed over to the Balasaheb Thackeray Memorial Public Trust in 2018
To accommodate the mayor, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided to construct a new bungalow on a 4,300 square-metre plot adjacent to the original bungalow at Shivaji Park
