The second girder of the Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge in Andheri has been levelled and the work of making the road on the girder has started. Earlier, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had reported that if the last pier on both approaches is completed by mid-February, then the project work can be completed by April-end (PICS/ASHISH RAJE)

The approaches of both sides are pending. Recently, girders for the approaches reached the construction site
The BMC had closed the Gokhale bridge in November 2022, stating that it was in a dilapidated condition and assured that it would be completed by May 2023. So far, several deadlines set for the Gokhale bridge work have lapsed
After rigorous foll ow-ups from citizens, the BMC started two lanes of the bridge on February 26, 2024, with height restrictions
Currently, only light vehicles can ply on the bridge. It is not yet open for buses
All parts of the girder were transported to Mumbai from Ambala and assembly was completed on August 24, 2024
Each girder is 13.5 metres wide (accommodating three lanes in each direction) with a 1-metre-wide walkway, and spans 90 metres in length. The girder weighs approximately 1,300 metric tonnes
