Street shopping is a popular activity during Diwali in Thane. Many market streets of Thane are lined with vendors selling a variety of items, including clothes, jewellery, and decorative items

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday extended Diwali greetings to people and urged them to work unitedly for the all-round development of the state

In a statement issued by the chief minister's office, CM Eknath Shinde expressed hope that the Diwali festivities bring peace and prosperity to all

"Let's work together to realise the dream of a developed state in all spheres," CM Shinde said

The chief minister also urged people to protect the environment while enjoying the festival of lights

Narak Chaturdashi, also known as Choti Diwali, is a Hindu festival celebrated on November 2, 2023, a day before the main Diwali festival. The festival is celebrated across most of India and has its roots in Hindu mythology

Narak Chaturdashi is celebrated to commemorate the victory of good over evil. On this day, people worship Lord Krishna, who is believed to have defeated Narakasura. The festival serves as a reminder that evil never survives and that good always prevails

Meanwhile, people are also preparing to celebrate the Lakshmi Puja which is performed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Ashwin to invoke Goddess Lakshmi to bestow her blessings on houses, bringing money, fortune, and well-being

Lakshmi Puja is defined by the thorough preparation of homes and workplaces. Devotees clean and decorate their surroundings, adorning entrances with vivid rangoli designs and other decorations
