While the residents have claimed that the offender has a history of rash driving, the driver claims his car suffered a glitch in its brakes

The accident took place at Kalpavruksha Complex, comprising 13 buildings in Virar West, where the local residents told mid-day that the incident took place in the wee hours of Saturday when the driver Sumeet Singh entered the society premises in his speeding car and dashed into the parking wall where another car was parked

“The car entered the society premises at 2.19 am and it was over-speeding. The man behind the wheel was Sumeet Singh who resides in a different wing of the housing complex. The over-speeding car dashed into the parking wall of Ocean Pearl and damaged a car parked nearby. The impact of the accident was so severe that a pillar of the parking area got damaged,” said a local resident, requesting anonymity

“After the accident, the driver disappeared from the site. When we called him (Singh) to ask about the accident, he told us that he was in Mira Road and not in Virar. But in the CCTV, we have identified him,” said the resident

There were a total of four occupants inside the car driven by Singh. A security guard has reportedly told the residents that after the accident, Singh and his three friends immediately removed empty liquor bottles and beer cans from the car, whose engine was considerably damaged in the accident

Another resident said, “He always drives rashly inside the society premises. I am not sure but the cops must check if he was driving drunk”
