RTI activists are up in arms against ill-treatment meted out to tree activist Vinod Jain, who was arrested on 17 February.

Jain flung a paperweight toward Tree Authority officer A D Ghorpade's office, breaking a glass pane in his cabin.
Ghorpade lodged a police complaint, after which Jain was arrested along with his friend and tree activist, Deepak Vahikar.u00a0

Jain allegedly lost his cool because despite the HC banning tree cutting in Pune, PMC was still granting permission to cut trees.

He said, "Since the ban on 6 May, 2009, 300 such permissions were granted by PMC. On Wednesday I raised my concern as I felt they are granting the permissions illegally. Ghorpade did not pay heed to me, so I hurled
a paperweight toward the glass."

Garden Superintendent Bhanudas Mane said, "As Jain damaged furniture and threatened PMC officers, we lodged a police complaint against him."
