Agra: The "missing" pinnacle of one of the minarets of Taj Mahal was brought down for repairs, Archae-ological Survey of India (ASI) yesterday said, putting at rest speculation on social media that it had "fallen off".

"During repair and maintenance work, the pinnacle was found to be weak and showed clear signs of ageing. It was, therefore, brought down for repairs on Monday," an ASI official said.
The iron rod of the pinnacle was rusty and weak and needed to be replaced, he said.
Social media was abuzz on Tuesday with talk that the pinnacle of one of the four minarets of the monument had "fallen off"during repair work.
Conservation Assistant Ram Ratan said that work has begun to restore the damaged pinnacle. Efforts would be made to re-install it within a week, another official said.
