Residents of the posh Revenue Colony say the area has become a sound pollution nightmare since Jangli Maharaj Road and Fergusson College Road turned one-way a fortnight ago
The 2,500-odd residents of the posh Revenue Colony are unhappy with the Traffic Department's decision to turn Jangli Maharaj Road and Fergusson College Road into one-ways. The Traffic Department's move followed a recent statement by DCP Manoj Patil, who said that noise pollution levels at Revenue Colony, which stood at 87 decibels, were among the highest in the city. "The one-way scheme on Jangali Maharaj Road will reduce the noise pollution levels," Patil had said.
Residents, however, have a different story to tell.
Said Vikram Awsarikar, a portfolio manager, who lives in the colony, "Before the one-way was introduced a fortnight back, our colony was peaceful. But now, our lanes are filled with motorists rushing from Apte Road to Shivaji Nagar. The traffic is particularly unruly during the rush hours."
Said Milind Ekbote, a social activist and ex-corporator, "All the residents are against the one-way arrangement.
We have communicated our views to the police commissioner on Tuesday. If the Traffic Department does not heed our demands, we will go on a hunger strike."
