Around 4 pm on April 21, a passer-by perceived a decomposed body bobbing in a nullah behind Infiniti mall. The man alerted the police control room immediately. Cops reached the location and sent the corpse to Bhagwati hospital after a spot inspection.
Next day, the deceased's mother approached Bangur Nagar police station and identified her as Jayeshree Uttam (24) from the clothes, mobile phone, jewellery and bag recovered. The woman was a representative at a telecom company's arcade in Kachpada, Malad (West).
Cops detained the victim's boyfriend Jayesh Ganawade (34) as prime suspect and brought him to the police station for questioning. Officials say he was constantly changing his statement, and making up stories. Initially, Jayesh claimed that Jayeshree was drowning in the nullah and he tried to rescue her but failed.
Later, he told police that he, his associate Sachin Ghadi and Jayeshree had a few drinks and had gone to Aksa beach. Finally, they went behind Infiniti mall for some âfun'. After chatting for a few minutes, Jayeshree went to answer nature's call, fell into the nullah, and drowned.
However, Ragunath Bagul, senior inspector of Bangur Nagar police station, said, "No alcohol was found inside Jayeshree's body during post-mortem." Jayesh and Sachin are both behind bars after being booked for murder. The duo will be produced in court today. Cops suspect that frequent fights between the prime accused and the victim may be the reason behind the killing.
