"Why Half, why not Full?" I question Madhuri Ruia, owner of what she claims is the city's first functional health studio by that name. "Who wants to be full?" she shoots back artfully at me.
"Does that mean, you want all of us to downsize?" I am beginning to itch if it's the Bebo factor kicking in already. "Half here means, half your effort combined with half our technique. And that equals to a fullness which does not have to be weight driven," she explains.
Even if you are touchy about your weight and come here expecting to slice off your unwanted fat, the studio offers health plans that take your feelings, diet, exercise, body shape, travel schedule and time constraints into account.
Play school exercises: Half has introduced two new machines that run on your energyu00a0The Jacob's Ladder and Rebound Air Trampoline. What is unique about The Jacob's Ladder is that it's a machine with a set of unending rungs, which should, like in the Book of Genesis, lead you into a fitness heaven. Ruia strapped a belt on my waist before I stepped on the ladder. I felt like Jack crawling up the beanstalk. The belt is strapped to give posture, as you push rung after rung on your way up the ladder, which for the most part, I couldn't climb beyond a few steps. It takes a while before your feet can find the rung that needs to be pushed down for another to appear. All this is possible because you use your energy to push your way forward. After a full day at work, I wasn't exactly doing great on the ladder.
"Give me something for kids, please," I requested personal trainer Nikhil Lad. He led to the Rebound Air Trampoline. His cue was, "Jump, like kids get excited when they spot an airplane in the sky." It's more like a toy anyone should have out in their front lawn, not just for kids, but adults too.
Electronic Free Workout: These two are part of their functional training regime that run on the energy drawn from your body. They also have something called Vortex, which is capable of over a 100 exercise combinations. It can make you fit, and a kick boxing champ. Two for the price of one. How Half does it, go figure!
