The SIM card was sold to Santosh Raju Pardeshi, a BPO employee who a few days ago posed as a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and messaged a city builder saying he should hand over Rs 50 lakh to a certain person.
The latest person booked in the case was identified as Jitendra Bhamare, the owner of Tushar Communication in Thergaon. The case was registered by a distributor of Uninor named Vishal Patil.
On September 25, the anti-extortion cell arrested Pardeshi, who to teach his manager Nasir Shaikh a lesson had hatched a plot to frame him in the extortion case by telling the builder to send the money to Shaikh's address.
"During the investigation, we came to know that the SIM card used to send the message was in the name of one Raghunath Kale of Kolhapur and when we checked with him, he said that the photograph and the signature were not his," Police Inspector Sachin Sawant of the AEC said.

"Kale said that the photocopy of the voter ID that was usedu00a0to procure the SIM belonged to him." Sawant said that Kale had given the voter identity card and his resume to Pardeshi through a common acquaintance a few days ago. He said that while Pardeshi used Kale's voter identity to procure the SIM card, he gave his real photo to Tushar Communication owner Bhamare.
"It seems Bhamare did not check the documents thoroughly and sold the SIM card to Pardeshi," Sawant said.u00a0
