A Delhi girl has done it again.
Ekta Choudhury, a 22-year-old from New Delhi, was on Sunday night crowned Pantaloons Femina Miss India Universe 2009. She will represent the country at the global beauty pageant later this year.
She received the crown at a grand ceremony here. Pooja Chopra was crowned Miss India World and Shriya Kishore is Miss India Earth 2009.
The contestants dazzled the event in beautiful creations by designers Ritu Kumar, Rocky S, Pantaloons (designed by Rajesh and Anirban) and Prasad Bidappa.
The show was choreographed by Marc Robinson and hosted by Bollywood beauty Malaika Arora Khan and actor R Madhavan.
The evening saw performances by a lively Genelia D'Souza and a very sedate Kangana Ranaut, not to mention a sizzling finale routine by former Miss World Priyanka Chopra, where the final five joined her on stage to shake a leg. It was choreographed by Shiamak Davar.
Priyanka's comment that "desi girls" are the hottest in the world and unbeatable, received a loud applause.
The judges for this year's pageant were director Madhur Bhandarkar, actors Ajay Devgan, Sushmita Sen, Asin and Deepika Padukone; fashion designer Nandita Mahtani, IGM managing director Ravi Krishnan and fashion editor Mickey Bourdman, and Lakme advisor Anil Chopra.
