Exam in 2 weeks, students still waiting for textbooks

Around 120 first-year Bachelor of Commerce students of Pancham High School and Junior College at Nallasopara, which harbours a centre of the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), has not yet received the Hindi language textbook from the centre.

The exams are beginning from May 6 for YCMOU distance learning course. Abhay Wagh (name changed), an FY B Com student of YCMOU at Pancham college, said, "I took admission in the month of July. I have taken six subjects in commerce and the books were received between November and December. Moreover, we are still waiting to get the Hindi language textbook from YCMOU. If we don't have material to study, we cannot write the paper."

Echoing the sentiments of Wagh, Sheela Tiwari, another FYBCom student from YCMOU's Nallasopara centre, said, "I am tense about whether I will be able to clear my Hindi exam as I do not have the book. Also, there were no lectures."

VN Kulkarni, regional director of Thane, YCMOU, said, "We received complaints from 10-12 centres about not having received Hindi books and we immediately made them available. The textbook had some printing errors, hence the delay. We got a complaint from the Nallasopara centre only on Tuesday and we will help them soon."
