A couple and their two minor children were burnt alive in their hutment in Deha Basti of the Shiv Colony here on Monday, official sources said.
The four identified as Jagmohan (32), his wife Bimla (30) and two minor children Monu and Sonu were burnt alive when their hutment caught fire due to short circuit, the sources said.
An adjacent house owned by one Maco was also damaged in the fire; the sources said adding that the four were killed before any aid could reach them.
The bodies of the four have been taken into custody by the police for conducting a post mortem.
Local MLA Sumita Singh and Deputy Commissioner Chander Parkash visited the spot.
Parkash also announced a compensation of Rs one lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased family and an ex-gratia of Rs 25,000 each to the two families whose houses were damaged.
