The high altitude areas of Kashmir valley including the famous ski resort of Gulmarg experienced fresh snowfall, while the plains including Srinagar were lashed by incessant rains on Tuesday.
About three inches of fresh snow accumulated on the ground in Gulmarg and adjoining areas of Afferwath, Kangdoori and Baba reshi in North Kashmir Baramulla district, official sources said.
It began snowing in the hill resort in the wee hours today, hours before the commencement of 'snow festival' being organised by Jammu and Kashmir tourism department.
Besides Gulmarg, reports of snowfall were also received from high altitude areas of Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Kupwara, Pulwama, Budgam, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts, they said.

The plains including Srinagar experienced intermittent rains. In view of the overcast sky, the night temperature has showed an upward trend across the valley, a spokesman of the met office said today.
He said the minimum temperature, which was below freezing point over the past few days, increased appreciably.
The night temperature recorded at Pahalgam, which was the coldest place at minus 4.2 degrees yesterday, was 0.7 degrees Celsius this morning.
Srinagar is warmer with a low of 3.4 degrees Celsius followed by Kokernag (3.6), Qazigund (3.2) and Kupwara (1.3). The night temperature in Jammu was 12.2 degrees Celsius followed by Katra (11.6), Batote (8.2), Bhaderwah (5.0) and Banihal (4.8).
