A 40-year-old Kannada movie producer and financier was severely injured after a gang of four attacked him in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The Hoysala patrolling squad saw Santosh profusely bleeding in an abandoned car, and took him to hospital.
The incident occurred when Santosh was returning home from his office in Vijayanagar and talking to hisu00a0 director-friend Hari Prakash on phone.
A white coloured Zen car rammed into Santosh's car from behind on Hennur main road. Santosh put the call on hold and got down from the car immediately after his car was hit.

Santosh found that the driver of the Zen car was drunk and the car was damaged badly. Enraged, Santoshu00a0 started hurling abuses at the driver. One of the occupants in the car got down and an altercation ensued between the two. Then, three others who were sitting inside the car came out and attacked Santosh with clubs and choppers, and fled the scene.
Meanwhile, Hari Prakash, who sensed trouble as his call was still put on hold, called Santosh's brother and informed about the incident. Santosh has been shifted to the ICU in Manipal Hospital.
Investigations
Assistant commissioner of police B B Ashok Kumar said that though preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was accidental,u00a0 further investigations were on to ascertain the motive.
Santosh was supposed to leave for Chickmagalur as the shooting for his new film was scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
He told the police that he had no enemies and could not take down the registration number of the vehicle.u00a0 The Frazer town police have taken up a case of attempt to murder and are trying to track the attackers.
