The president of Viswabharathi House Building Society and his family have managed to grab at least 20 sites when rules say a member can hold only one site and his kin none
B Krishna Bhat and family have bagged at least 20 sites from the Viswabharathi House Building Society while other members wait their turn. Bhat is the president of the society.
Records with MiD DAY show that at least 20 sites have been registered in his name and that of his two sons and daughter.
If you go by the book, a member is eligible for one site. And the president, being a member, is entitled to that one site. Family members are not eligible.
But Bhat has his own logic: "It is true that the family members of a society member cannot own sites. But my children are grown up and I cannot stop them from making assets."
He had no answer when asked how his children could get more than one site. And he and his sons were living together.
How many more?
"These sites are on record. There are many others under fictitious names. While members have not got a single site, this family is enjoying multi-crore assets," said Ravikumar, one of the aggrieved members who complained to the police against the society.
No details revealed
Bhat refused to give details of the sites owned by him but admitted: "The site on which Radhakrishna Hospital is built is in my name."
The hospital is built on sites numbers 3 and 4, each measuring 40x60 ft.u00a0 Records say this site is also a civic amenity site (see box). Bhat's second son B K Viswanath Bhat (40), an MBBS, runs the hospital.
Viswanath Bhat owns several sites including number 695 in Girinagar I Phase, measuring 60x115 ft.
The site on which the family house is built is also in his name.
Interestingly, there is no mention of the rate of the site on the sale deed. So, how much he paid for the site is not known.
His younger brother and sister also own many sites. B K Parthasarathi, Bhat's second son, owns site number 697 at Girinagar I Phase, measuring 60x125 ft.
Parked on public spaceDespite Krishna Bhat and his family hogging at least 20 sites, they live on a civic amenity site meant for a park.
Bhat admitted that a petition had been filed saying it was a civic amenity site "but I have set it right and the issue is no more." He didn't reveal how he had set it right.
