66 residents of a village test COVID-19 positive in a week in Jalna

Amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases across in India, 66 residents of a village in Maharashtra tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Following the huge spike in COVID-19 cases, fear has gripped the citizens of Khanepuri village in Jalna district, which has a population of 1,700.

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, a medical officer said that between November 26 and December 3, a total of 66 people in the village tested COVID-19 positive, "On December 1 alone, as many as 35 villagers were found infected," he said.

Another officer said that around 200 villagers had attended the funeral of a local resident on November 25. The villagers allegedly did not follow the COVID-19 norms laid down by the state government and the health ministry.

After being tested positive, the patients have been admitted to a designated COVID-19 hospital in Jalna and are currently undergoing treatment.

On Friday, reported 127 deaths due to COVID-19, thus taking up the toll to 47,599, while new infections remained above the 5,000-mark the state reporting 5,229 fresh cases taking the tally to 18,42,587. On the other hand, the state's recovery rate improved from 92.07 per cent to 92.81 per cent - while the mortality rate stood stable at 2.58 per cent.
