The newest club on the Andheri block is all set to woo customers inside its sassy interiors, but will it manage to hold its own three months down the line?

Kir (pronounced Keer), situated on New Link Road in Andheri, is certainly high on the swish stakes. Its stark red and black interiors, clean lines, and non-fussy furniture help ensure that. Kir, which translates to "cherry" among other, far-less-polite terms, is also the name of a wine-based cocktail, which brings us to the club's alleged USPu00a0-- a place that takes its drink as seriously as it does its music.

Kir's 7,000 sq feet enclosure houses a separate VIP lounge that comes with its own private DJu00a0Pics/ Mahanand Gupta

Drinks are moderately priced between Rs 200 and Rs 350, with beers priced at Rs 200 and shots averaging around Rs 250. It's apparent that showmanship is high on every Kir bartender's agenda as you watch them determinedly place the cocktail glass in front of you and get on with the business of flourish bartending.

The night we went, we tried the Green Apple Martini, which was just rightu00a0-- fresh, crisp and delightfully girly. However, the Tangy Caprioska was less flavourful and not as snappy as we might have liked.u00a0

On the music front, Wednesdays are reserved for hip-hop, Thursdays for live performances, Fridays for electronica and Saturdays for commercial music (translates to Bollywood music for you and me). They are planning retro nights on Sundays, though it might be a while before that happens.u00a0

Expect to find resident DJ Rohit Balal or Chromaderma (as he's called) behind the console, on most nights. And while he does succeed in getting the crowd to reverentially bob their heads in homage to the music he plays, it looks like it's going to take more work to get them to cross over from the bar on to the dance floor.

Starters at Kir veer towards the exotic, so this is not the place to drop by if you can't do without your chilli cheese toast and masala peanuts. Here, your choices are likely to range from squid to Mozzarella Rolls with prices ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 350. We ordered the Falafel, which was served with a squirt of hummus and a coriander garnish. Nice! The crispy Parmesan Chicken was ordinary, and can be easily skipped.

On Friday and Saturday nights, there's a definite buzz to the place and depending on which side of the age spectrum you fall in, you might be thankful not to have to contend with the teenybopper crowd. Still, as they say, location is everything and given Kir's, it looks like it's going to be an uphill task to entice clubbers to stop by --u00a0cherry or otherwise.
