Mumbai-based ventriloquist and puppeteer Ramdas Padhye will represent India at the Wayang World Puppetry Carnival to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 31. He has been selected from 384 contestants.
Ramdas will showcase a show titled Global Warming -- It's Warning. "Puppet shows inform and educate at the same time. It also has universal appeal, as it conveys a message that can be easily understood by all age groups across nationalities," says Ramdas, adding that the recent floods in Uttarakhand inspired him to create the piece.
The artiste, who has been preparing for the past four months, will feature different puppetry forms, including traditional Indian forms such as string puppets, and contemporary ventriloquial puppets. So far Ramdas has presented more than 9,600 shows in over 100 countries across the globe.u00a0
