Till July this year, as many as 2,558 children disappeared from their homes in the national capital, and Delhi Police were able to recover 1,716 of them
In a written reply, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said Wednesday that in 2009, about 5,946 children disappeared from Delhi, of whom 5,365 were traced and reunited with their families.
In 2010, about 5,091 children went missing and police were able to find 3,937 of them, the Rajya Sabha was informed.
The minister said "no specific reason" was found for the disappearance of the children.

But further probe showed that some children went missing because they lost their way or left home because they were maltreated by parents. The other reasons were pressure of studies, unsound mind, kidnapping and elopement.
He said 18 people have been nabbed for kidnapping.
Ramachandran said senior police officers have been instructed to closely supervise and monitor the investigation related to a missing child.
