Over 60,000 cops on duty for K'taka LS polls


About 62,000 police personnel and 156 platoons from neighbouring states would be on duty across Karnataka during the Lok Sabha polls, a top police official said yesterday.
A total of 52 companies comprising 156 platoons were sought from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala as additional forces. Arrangements had been made to deploy 2616 mobile police teams in the state, Karnataka DGP Ajai Kumar Singh told reporters in Bangalore.
In naxal-infested areas special arrangements had been made and measures taken to ensure free and fair polls. Around 18 police stations fell in this area,he said.
According to Singh, 9285 cases have been booked under various sections against 17,750 persons in connection with violation of poll code and also against criminals.
Goods worth Rs 1.37 crore and cash worth Rs 18.37 crore have been seized, he said. To a question on terror threat during polls, he said such warnings have been 'looming large generally'. There were a total of 47,447 polling stations in the state.
