People's Democratic Party chief Abdul Nasser Madani, was arrested last afternoon in Avarichill in Kerala as a team of officials from the Bangalore Anti-Terrorist Cell (ATC) landed there to execute a non-bailable warrant.

The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate issued the non-bailable warrant against Madani after the ATC filed a chargesheet against Madani citing his involvement in the serial blasts case that rocked the city in July 2008.

According to sources, the officials have booked tickets to fly back to the city with him.

However, it was known that Madani, who was prepared for the arrest after the court rejected his anticipatory bail, had plans to surrender himself.

His arrest may come as a welcome relief to the state government as this will take away the spotlight from the ongoing Congress crusade on the Bellary mining issue.

The ATC has evidence to prove that T Nasir, the prime accused in the case, had contacted Madani before and after the blast.

The telephone conversation that took place between the duo is the clinching evidence that will help to nail them, a police officer had said.
