If you are a fan of Punjabi cuisine, you just have to eat at this down-to-earth eatery. Frequented mostly by families and students, Punjabi Rasoi offers rich, ghee-laden Punjabi khana.
Ambience: The restaurant looks like any other run-of-the-mill eatery. Functional plastic tables adorn the inside as well as the out. We opted to sit outside, as the inner area was a tad too crowded.
USP: The special attraction is the tandoor on the premises. Once you place your order, the cook rustles up the Tandoori Chicken right in front of your eyes.
We tried: The restaurant serves lunch and dinners and offers vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian fare. We started with the Tandoori Chicken (Rs 75), which was tender, well-marinated and sprinkled generously with chaat masala. Even the salad was not spared the sprinkling. Though the presentation could have been more interesting, the food tasted divine.
For the main course, we ordered Chicken Masala (Rs 55) and Veg Patiala (Rs 60) along with the Butter Roti (Rs 15). The Chicken Masala was cooked well and you could get the tangy taste of tomato and yoghurt as you chewed on the chunks of chicken. Ginger, onion and garlic were chopped minutely and blended nicely to give a rich flavour. The dish was garnished with freshly-cut coriander leaves.
The Veg Patiala, which had a sweet and creamy taste, was a value for money. It was prepared with corn flour dumplings, filled with finely chopped cabbage, paneer, onions and carrots and served with gravy and garnished with cream. The frothy Lassi (Rs 15), that we ordered as dessert and which was served in a big beer mug, was refreshing and very filling.
Service: The service was prompt and friendly and the attendants were always within reach.
