THE traffic police website will sport a new look soon, thanks to Punekars. Citizens have responded enthusiastically to the traffic police's appeal by submitting more than 500 web design entries for the city's traffic portal. This response comes close on heels of the successful Facebook initiative.

Citizens can now vote for their favourite design from the chosen five. Twenty per cent of the marks have been reserved for citizens' vote and the judges have a say on the remaining 80 percent. A cash prize of Rs 50,000 has been declared by the Pinnacle group, Tejraj promoters and builders for the final entry selected.

They are developing a website, which would give real time updates about traffic diversions, blockages and congestion besides showing the shortest routes so that commuters can plan their journey in advance. The project is being carried out under the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA). DCP (Traffic) Manoj Patil said, "The website development project is a partnership between citizens, industry and police. The website will send SMS and e-mail updates to citizens."
