The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a smuggling attempt in Punjab's Amritsar and seized three packages suspected to be containing 3.210 kg of heroin wrapped with adhesive tape, the force said on Saturday. This is the third seizer of suspected smuggled heroin in recent time by the BSF in Amritsar. On December 24, 2023 BSF arrested three smugglers who were trying to get away with the consignment of heroin.
"In the early hours of January 6th, 2024, at around 5:30 AM, alert Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed at the border uncovered a dropping sound near the border fence in the proximity of Village-Daoke, District-Amritsar", the BSF said in a press statement.
Following a thorough search of the area, BSF troops successfully recovered three packages suspected to contain heroin (Gross weight - approximately 3.210 kg ), securely wrapped with yellow adhesive tape and one Android mobile phone from a farming field, the force further said, ANI reported.
The vigilant BSF troops thwarted yet another illicit attempt by Pakistani smugglers to smuggle narcotics, the statement added.

In another recent seizer in Punjab's Amritsar on December 24, 2023, 525 gms of heroin was recovered. On the basis of Special information of BSF regarding the smuggling activities near Village Dhanoe Kalan, District Amritsar, a special operation was planned. At about 12 midnight, movement of two suspected smugglers was observed in the farming field, followed by dropping sound of consignment after drone movement. Immediately both the smugglers were arrested, who were trying to get away with the consignment of heroin, which was wrapped with yellow adhesive tape, and having a ring made of string attached with it, ANI reported.
"On the revelation of both the smugglers, the third smuggler was also arrested. Yet another attempt of smugglers to smuggle narcotics was foiled by vigilant BSF troops," it added, reported ANI.
On December 23, 2023 too BSF and Punjab Police, in a joint operation, recovered a drone and a packet of contraband suspected to be heroin from a farming field adjacent to Village Bhaini Rajputana in Punjab's Amritsar. BSF said that the recovered drone is a China-made 'Quadcopter' DJI Mavic 3 Classic model and was carrying approximately 540 grams of heroin, reported ANI.
