‘Delhi sought 125 MT of oxygen, but Centre said give just 80 MT’

Shortage of oxygen continue to grip hospitals in Delhi. Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, which on Friday reported the death of 25 of its "sickest" patients due to depleting oxygen supply, has been waiting for three days to refill its cylinders used while transporting critically ill COVID-19 patients.

Sources on Monday told PTI that the hospital is currently on beg and borrow mode. It has 104 oxygen cylinders that are used to move extremely sick COVID-19 patients an emergency which is happening frequently now, an official said. "All the cylinders were sent three days ago to different locations for emergency refill. For the last three days our staff is camping there but to no avail," he said. "The hospital has arranged two cylinders which are also going to empty quickly," a source said.

INOX, the oxygen supplier, has told Delhi High Court that the 105 metric tonne (MT) allocation to Delhi has been slashed to 80 MT on the instruction of the Cenre, and teh supply to Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan has been increased, reported NDTV.

"The Delhi government issued an order to supply 125 MT to hospitals yesterday while the Centre also issued an order yesterday, revising our allocation to only 80 MT to Delhi. What should we do?" INOX chief Siddarth Jain told the HC. "Because of shortage, hospitals are sending us SOS. We haven't slept for the past seven days. Please sort this and let us know how much we need to supply to which hospitals," he added.
