A 19-year-old typhoid-ridden woman from Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu died in a primary health centre, on Wednesday, after her father took her to a tantric for exorcism instead of taking her to a doctor.
Tharani, who had lost her mother earlier, fell ill after her last visit to her mother's resting place. Convinced that her daughter has been possessed by the spirit of her mother, Tharani's father, Veera Selvam, took her to a tantric, reports India Today.
The tantric performed rituals on her to exorcise the spirit in her body. Her condition worsened and she fainted. She was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with typhoid.
However, the discontinued her treatment and took her to another tantric. Owing to medical neglect, Tharani's condition worsened severely and she dies in Uchipuli primary health centre.
