A woman tourist from Madhya Pradesh died after falling into the river while taking a selfie on the banks of the Beas River near Manali in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, officials said on Sunday.
An eyewitness reported that the woman fell off the cliff near Nehru Kund, around 4 kilometres from Manali. She was accompanied by Saurabh Shah, 32, of Hyderabad, who dove into the river to save her, but he went missing as well and was thought to have perished.
Ruchi Tiwari (age 23), a Madhya Pradesh inhabitant of Reva, was identified as the deceased. DSP Manali K D Sharma told PTI that a search and rescue effort was underway to locate the missing people, and a Manali police squad was on the scene.
