India`s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, explained that India did not stop trade with Pakistan. Instead, it was Pakistan that chose to halt trade in 2019. Jaishankar clarified this during a press conference in Washington DC, stating, "We did not stop trading. Their administration decided in 2019 to stop it." He also discussed the issue of the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status, which India gave to Pakistan, but Pakistan did not return the favor. Jaishankar emphasized that India has always been concerned about this lack of reciprocity. He added that there have been no recent discussions or efforts to resume trade from either side, highlighting the lack of initiative from Pakistan as well.
