The 30-second commercial begins with two attractive women exchanging smouldering glances at a party before heading off to a bedroom.

Even the price is not mentioned, as it ends with the caption: "New Twingo Miss Sixty It's a Girl Thing."

The advert was made by Italian firm Publicis but the Prime Minister's Mediaset empire have refused to air it with Sky being the only broadcaster showing it.

The advert has outraged gay groups in Italy and has become a topic of debate on forums with many claiming that it is "offensive to lesbians" while some did say it was a "pleasant change."

Daniele Tranchini, of Publicis in Milan, said, "We wanted to create an advert that was original, enjoyable and at the same time not vulgar and I believe we have achieved that."

Luciano Ciabetti, a spokesman for Renault, said, "We think it's a great advert, is very open minded and
continues the theme of previous adverts which always play on irony."
