Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong's time-trial bike was stolen, along with those of three Astana teammates, after Saturday's prologue of the Tour of California.
Armstrong revealed the theft on Twitter, and Astana manager Johan Bruyneel also discussed the heist on the social networking website.
Police in Sacramento, site of the individual time-trial prologue, said they were investigating, even as stage one of the race took the riders from Davis to Santa Rosa.
Sacramento Police Department spokesman Konrad Von Schoech told the Sacramento Bee newspaper the bikes were stolen from an unmarked truck that was parked in an alley behind a hotel overnight.

Von Schoech said it wasn't clear whether the thieves were targeting Armstrong, who this year launched a return to racing after a hiatus of three and a half years.
"We don't have any information that would indicate they specially went after his bike," he told the newspaper.
