India paceman Ashish Nehra will undergo surgery in Melbourne, Australia today for his injured finger. It is learnt that the surgery, conducted by Dr Gregory Hoy, will take place at Avenue Hospital, Windsor, Victoria.

The left-arm paceman fractured a finger on his right hand during the World Cup semi-final game against Pakistan last week. The injury ruled him out of the final against Sri Lanka. Nehra (32) injured his finger while attempting a catch at deep mid-wicket to dismiss Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, who played a pull shot off spinner Yuvraj Singh. As it turned out, the ball fell in front of him and the decision didn't go India's way. The Indians eventually won the game in Mohali.

Nehra was picked for the Pakistan game ahead of R Ashwin, a gamble taken by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who later admitted misreading the wicket, indicating that he shouldn't haveu00a0 played Nehra as the third seamer.
Zaheer Khan and Munaf Patel were the other fast bowlers in the playing XI. Nehra, who debuted for India in 1999, is expected to return home (Delhi) on April 12.
